Salisbury Cathedral is one of the great buildings of medieval England — the tallest spire in Britain at 123 metres, built between 1220 and 1320 in a remarkably unified Early English Gothic style. The Cathedral houses one of the four surviving original copies of Magna Carta (1215), on display in the Chapter House.
Inside, the Cathedral is vast and serene — 450 feet long, with the original 13th-century stonework largely intact. The medieval clock in the north nave is one of the oldest working mechanical clocks in the world (1386). The stained glass ranges from medieval to contemporary, including stunning modern windows by Gabriel Loire.
Choral Evensong on Saturday and Sunday at 3pm is free to attend — one of the extraordinary musical experiences available in Wiltshire, sung by the Cathedral Choir to a small audience in the quire. The Tower Tour (separate booking) takes visitors to the base of the magnificent spire.
