Salisbury Charter Market is one of the largest and oldest markets in England — granted its Royal Charter by Henry III in 1227, almost 800 years ago. Every Tuesday and Saturday, the Market Place fills with over 250 stalls selling fresh produce, fish, meat, cheese, flowers, clothing, crafts, gifts, hot food and much more.
The Saturday market is the larger and more vibrant of the two days — expect the full range of traders plus a food market element with hot food stalls and artisan producers. Tuesday is quieter but has most of the same produce traders. The market is free to enter and has been the commercial heart of Salisbury for nearly eight centuries.
The Charter Market is one of the genuine highlights of any Salisbury visit — the Market Place is also one of the handsomest civic spaces in England, surrounded by medieval buildings including the original market cross and the famous Poultry Cross nearby.
